Dayton Children's looking for local artists to help decorate new tower
Healing isn’t always just about doctors and nurses, medications and machines. Sometimes items that have nothing to do with medicine can have the biggest impact on a child’s health.
Art is one of those items that plays a key role in supporting the healing process at Dayton Children’s Hospital. Research shows it can help reduce stress and provide positive distractions to children of all ages throughout their hospital journey. As Dayton Children’s builds a new eight-story patient tower, art will enhance patient and family experiences through whimsically sophisticated elements of discovery. Selected artwork will support the “Things that Fly” design theme, floor by floor, while creating a distinctly Dayton feel. Learn more about the project at http://transformcare.childrensdayton.org.
Dayton Children’s Hospital would like to feature work by local artists in the public areas of the new tower, as well as in the public areas the new Springboro medical office building, emergency department and ambulatory surgery center. The artwork needs to supports the Things that Fly theme and appeal to the child-like wonder in all ages, represent diversity, inspire imagination, spark conversation while creating positive distractions. Some thematic examples include but are not limited to: birds/hummingbirds, balloons, rockets, airplanes, dragonflies, honey bees, kites, shooting stars, sun or other. Artists living within Dayton Children’s Hospital’s 20 county service area will be given priority consideration followed by Ohio artists and other artists across the United States. All artists whose works meet the required criteria will be considered. The service area includes the following 20 Ohio counties:

- Greene
- Clark
- Miami
- Fayette
- Madison
- Union
- Champaign
- Logan
- Hardin

Art guiding principles:
Selected artwork will:
- Remain safe
- Appeal to child-like wonder in all ages
- Include community collaborations
- Remain timeless / minimal upkeep and maintenance
- Create an integrated visual experience in which architecture, graphics, wayfinding and art blend seamlessly
Unframed art or canvas size: 18” x 18” or larger
2 and 3-D mediums: Sculpture, Oil, Acrylic, Pastel, Watercolor, Glass, Mosaic Tile, Photography, Fabric, Metal, Fiberglass, Torn Paper and Mixed Media
Submittal instructions: Please submit up to 4 digital images/ photos per medium. Include description of medium, art size, and artist’s cost for each submittal. Submitted artwork does not have to be available as submittals are to represent the style in which you work. Submittals can be digital images, transparencies, or printed images. No original works will be accepted as a submittal. All submittals are to be received by Distinctive Art Source on or before the January 15, 2016 deadline. Dayton Children’s Hospital will not accept any submittals.
