The endocrinology, diabetes and prediabetes clinics at Dayton Children’s offers the following programs for children with endocrine disorders.

diabetes

Dayton Children’s provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We are passionate about helping these children manage their condition and live normal, active lives.

Our goal is to help educate patients and families, and to encourage children to take responsiblity for managing their health. Our program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association, showing our passion and commitment to providing high quality education.  We work with families to create a personalized care plan and review it regularly as the child’s needs change. Our team cares for patients as they transition into adulthood.

endocrinology

The endocrinology clinic at Dayton Children’s provides care for patients who have an endocrine disorder other than type 1 or type 2 diabetes. These can include growth disorders, thyroid diseases, adrenal diseases and pituitary gland disorders, among others.

In most cases, patients who are part of our endocrinology clinic receive outpatient care only, although on rare occasions a hospital stay is necessary. The endocrinology clinic team cares for patients as they transition into adulthood.

prediabetes

Dayton Children’s prediabetes clinic, formerly known as the hyperinsulinism clinic, focuses on patients who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. 

The goals of the prediabetes clinic are:

  1. Treat children with high insulin level and at risk for developing diabetes
  2. Help patients lose weight
  3. Prevent patients from developing insulin resistance, diabetes and metabolic syndrome
  4. Develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle

virtual care

Video visits at Dayton Children's provide you and your child a convenient, hassle-free environment for your appointment. Video visits are just like an office visit, only from the comfort of your home! Using video conferencing technology (similar to FaceTime or Google Meet) allows you to have an appointment from your mobile device or personal computer without the need to commute. The endocrinology department welcomes phone calls to 937- 641-3487 during our normal business hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. After hours, you can dial 937-641-3000 and ask that the endocrinologist on call be paged.

A physician referral is necessary prior to the child’s first outpatient visit. All follow up appointments will be made during your clinic visit or by calling central scheduling at 937-641-4000.
