RSV prevention clinic
Synagis is a prescription medicine that can help protect high-risk infants (up to two years old) from getting severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Children who need this medication receive a monthly injection during RSV season (November through March). The injection can be given at Dayton Children’s or in the patient’s home (depending on insurance plan benefits).
Synagis is available to babies age 24 months old or less who are at high-risk for severe RSV. These include babies:
- Who were born before 29 weeks gestation.
- Who were born before 32 weeks gestation and have certain types of chronic lung disease, moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension, or certain types of heart disease.
- And some babies with cystic fibrosis or neuromuscular conditions
If your child has been referred for Synagis injections, we will contact you to talk about what is involved. For more information, please call us at 937-641-5346.
