thirty five years later and from typewriter to laptop

From typewriter to laptop, Caroline Michel has been with Dayton Children's through every reinvented path. What's kept her on the relentless pursuit with us? As Caroline says, "it's the kids, of course!"

In 1986, Caroline Michel started part-time as an administrative clerk-typist at Children's Medical Center, now known as Dayton Children's Hospital. 

"I went from providing administrative support on an old IBM typewriter, to a mag card writer, to a desktop PC, to a laptop today," said Caroline. "Things have sure changed…and for the better!"

As Dayton Children's brand evolved over the last three decades with physical transformations, care expansions and a new brand identity, so did Caroline's career. She worked in nursing administration, became an office coordinator, eventually moved into nursing education, renamed to corporate education, and now is an employee solutions analyst in the center for learning and development.

"While I have never worked at the bedside, all of us, no matter what our job title is, contribute and support the kids in our own way, whether you are cooking the food, repairing equipment, providing administrative support or even developing e-learning," said Caroline. "I love hearing about positive patient outcomes, that is what inspires me."

In fact, it was those type of stories that brought Caroline to Dayton Children's 35 years ago. Dayton Children's well-respected reputation and Caroline's interest in contributing to the pediatric community, made our hospital the perfect career fit. 

"I’ve worked with some great leaders over the years who encouraged me along the way," shared Caroline. "I am truly grateful for that support!"

There's been so many above and beyond memories during Caroline's time that it's hard to choose just one favorite. However, having the then first lady, Hillary Clinton, visit and speak to Dayton Children's staff might be at the top.

From typewriter to laptop, thank you for your continued above and beyond work, Caroline!
