High tech meets a warm welcome as families arrive for the first appointments on the final two floors of the specialty care center now open at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

A soaring eagle in green leads the way to the third floor, where families can see specialists in the following clinics:

  • Orthopedics
  • Physical medicine and rehab
  • Sports medicine
  • Chronic pain
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Myelomeningocele
  • Pre-anesthesia
  • Rheumatology

This floor will allow for orthopedic patients to have their entire journey with Dayton Children’s all in one place. Moving from X-ray and imaging to the orthopedics clinic and rehabilitation, families will enjoy the convenience of one space to meet all their orthopedic needs.

For some, the patient journey may end in the rehabilitation gym. The sun-filled space features top-of-the-line equipment, including a new Hydroworx hydrotherapy machine designed to harness the power of water and help kids recover faster following trauma, surgery or an injury.

Also on this floor is a new surgical simulation lab. Here surgeons can train on the latest techniques using lifelike patient simulators that react physiologically as if they were real. It also allows accomplished surgeons to train the next generation of medical residents and students in a safe atmosphere as well as educate children and families on their conditions and surgeries. All this ensures that children in our region can benefit from the best and latest approaches to surgery, today and for years to come.

Layered wayfinding makes it easy to find your way – whether it be by number, letter, color or icon of things that fly. For example, on the fourth floor a purple butterfly highlights the area that serves families who need these services:

  • Endocrinology and diabetes
  • Neurology / EEG
  • Pulmonary / Pulmonary function lab
  • Sleep medicine clinic
  • Synagis clinic

Families visiting clinics on the fourth floor will experience diagnostic testing co-located in the same space as their clinic appointment making for a more efficient visit.

For kids that need just a little extra assistance for their appointments, sensory features like multicolored touch lights and colorful marble walls will help to calm and distract them while receiving care.

Families will delight in this bright, whimsical “one-stop shop” to take care of all their child’s medical needs.

The fifth floor remains shell space for future expansion and development.
