Shannon Nicks, PhD, MPH

Associate Director of Health Outcomes Research

Shannon E. Nicks, PhD, MPH is the Associate Director of Health Outcomes Research in the Center for Health Equity and joined Dayton Children’s in fall of 2021. Working with other researchers in the Center, Shannon is responsible for studying the “why” behind health disparities and developing solutions to improve patient outcomes in collaboration with our partners. 

Shannon has extensive research experience using the principles of community-based participatory research. She has collaborated with minority and underserved communities to study social determinants of health and access to care as well as to promote health equity in outcomes related to cancer and rural health. This research has informed community-based public health practice, improved community capacity to engage in research, and resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations at local, state, and national professional association conferences.   

Shannon earned her PhD and MPH with a concentration in Behavioral Science and Health Education from Saint Louis University in 2016 and 2011, respectively. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Wright State University.
