diversity, equity and inclusion

Here at Dayton Children’s, we recognize that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are extremely important and foundational. We value our diverse patient population and community. Dayton Children’s is committed to diversifying our respected workforce to mirror the patients, families, and community we serve. As a hospital system, we have prioritized DEI work through our values, mission, vision, and goals.

Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine has a mission to educate culturally diverse students to become excellent physicians. They are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their race, sex (including gender identity/expression), color, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, disability, genetic (DNA) information, veteran status, military status, or sexual orientation are valued. Our residency benefits from the excellent mission and commitment of our School of Medicine.

The residency program is committed to recruiting and training a diverse group of pediatric professionals. We strive to create an inclusive community where all feel welcome and supported. The program has an 18-month curriculum that covers important DEI topics through lectures and small group discussions. We have a resident diversity and inclusion committee that meets monthly to discuss the needs of the program as it relates to DEI, promote local and nationwide efforts, partner with Dayton Children’s DEI task force and committees, as well as facilitate mentorship by faculty members who are tremendous supporters of the committee's goals.

Our goals:

• To increase the number of Dayton Children's Hospital trainees who identify as underrepresented in medicine

• To provide support and mentorship to those individuals in becoming outstanding clinicians

• To prepare our trainees to be able to care for patients of different races, genders, religions, origins and disabilities
