get to know me

I chose my specialty because...

it found me. My first nursing job was at Dayton Children's where I was offered a position in Hematology-Oncology even though I had not interviewed for that specific department. I took the job and I have never regretted that decision.

I chose to work at Dayton Children's because...

we are able to provide world class care with a personal touch. Why would I want to work anywhere else when we can provide the best of both worlds right here.

She does a great job and we have been really happy with her but this visit was only good and not excellent. she tried to explain that the 4x4's needed to be fluffed over. The wound and under the kerlex and ace bandage to prevent shearing on my child's skin graft. She has fluffed 4x4's in the past for his wound that irritated him and caused pain for my child and which he ripped off because he could not handle it. I tried to tell her that this irritated him in the past and it didn't feel like she heard me because she said that is how it needed to be done. My child is autistic and just because it has to be done this way doesn't mean he can do it that way because of his disability. At a children's hospital I would have expected our NP (provider) to hear us and take my child's disability into account or ask a child life specialist to come and help navigate his disability and this next piece of wound care. My child has already ripped off the fluff. Jessica was focused on the the wound and has been great with wound care but she missed this autistic disability piece on this one visit. I wish she could have really heard that it bothered him in the past and been creative about another alternative or way to do it.
