May also be called: Cut

An open wound of the wrist is a cut or break in the skin there. The wound may be minor and near the surface of the skin. Or it can be more serious, affecting deeper tissues of the wrist, such as tendons, muscles, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels, or bone.

More to Know

Treat minor wounds at home with first aid. Seek immediate medical attention if a wound appears to be deep, gaping, or won't stop bleeding. Doctors may try to close the wound with stitches, tape, or an adhesive glue.

Keep in Mind

Deep, large, and dirty wounds need more care. (A "dirty" wound is one that germs have gotten into.) After a wound is treated and bandaged, follow instructions carefully to prevent infection and minimize scarring.
