He spent his pediatric residency at Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine. After residency, Dr. Urschel spent nearly a decade in the Greater Dayton area as a pediatrician where he developed an interest in treating patients with allergies. In 2019, Dr. Urschel left his pediatric practice to complete an allergy and immunology fellowship at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, Florida. When asked why he chose to specialize in allergy and immunology he responded, "This field is evolving rapidly, presenting new exciting treatment options." Upon completion of he fellowship, Dr. Urschel joined the allergy and immunology practice at Dayton Children's Hospital. He chose to return to Dayton Children's because of the relationships he has built over the years from being a pediatrician in the community. He believes that Dayton Children's is special, it is large enough to provide excellent care and small enough to focus on individual patients. Dr. Urschel's favorite thing about working with kids is their joyful spirit and ability to bounce back and recover from illness. Outside of work, Dr. Urschel enjoys sports, outdoors and spending time with his wife and children.
