Physicians specializing in internal medicine and pediatrics are uniquely qualified to understand the needs of children, since this staff of internists is also trained in pediatrics. Patients with chronic conditions of childhood are being successfully treated and transitioned to adult health care. Because these physicians are also trained in treating adults, they are qualified to enhance this transition by addressing the primary illness and identifying and/or preventing the possibility of developing associated illnesses. Working in conjunction with pediatricians enables a true team approach toward ongoing patient care. There are several community internal medicine specialists who are members of The Children's Medical Center's active staff.
