Dayton Children’s Hospital recently honored several outstanding nurses for their contributions during the annual Nurse’s Day celebration on Wednesday, May 8. These awards are given each year to nurses who were nominated by other hospital employees for excellence in nursing. May 6-12, 2013 was National Nurses Week.

Excellence in Nursing Award winners:

  • Advocacy/Moral Agency Award - April Denlinger, BSN, RN, CPEN, SANE-P – Emergency department – Middletown
  • Facilitator of Learning Award - Linda Duplechian, BSN, RN, CPEN – Corporate education – Kettering
  • Collaboration Award - Sarah Fletcher, BSN, RN – Surgical Services – Clayton
  • Outstanding New Graduate - Andrea Forsythe, RN- Almost Home Unit – West Alexandria
  • Clinical Judgment Award - Whittney Hard, BSN, RN, CPOHN – Hematology/Oncology – Beavercreek
  • Clinical Inquiry Award- Lisa Jasin, MS, RN, NNP-BC, RNC-NIC – Newborn Intensive Care Unit – Centerville
  • Caring Practices Award - Amy Kosanovich, BSN, RN- Inpatient Unit 3 East – Kettering
  • Systems Thinking Award - Audrey Lozier, BSN, RN- Inpatient Unit 3 East – Centerville
  • Outstanding new Employee - Ashley Neal, RN- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit – Sydney
  • Response to Diversity Award - Brittany Randall, RN- Emergency Department – West Milton

Cameo of Caring:

Cindy Dixon, RN of Bellbrook was awarded the prestigious Cameo of Caring Award for 2013. Dixon is a nurse in the Almost Home unit and has been working at Dayton Children’s for 15 years.

“Cindy is an excellent example of everything a Cameo of Caring Nurse winner should be,” says Renae Phillips, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, vice President of inpatient care services and chief nurse executive. “She is knowledgeable and truly a professional in every way. She gives of herself from the heart which is a gift to all of us who work with her.”

Dixon holds a masters degree in nursing and is active in the Clinical IMPACTS program achieving a Level 4 which is the highest level that can be achieved in the program. She is an active member of Society of Pediatric Nursing & Nurses Christian Fellowship.  She achieved her Pediatric Nurse Certification and is a Daisy Award Winner. Dixon is one of a three master’s prepared nurses at Dayton Children’s working to establish an Evidenced Based Practice Program to improve the organization’s care to pediatric patients and elevate the professional practice of nursing. She provides education to staff in a special way that fosters learning that is creative, fun, sensitive and maintains the dignity of the individual students and their learning opportunities.

“Cindy is very positive and welcomes new employees with a warm smile,” says Phillips. “She takes time out of her busy schedule to not only practice patient care but to listen to staffs concerns or fears.  She encourages everyone she sees.  She is an amazing nurse and educator!”
