11-03-2010 (Dayton, OH) -
Kohl’s Associates in Action team members will be reinforcing the importance of safe play at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 3 at Edison Elementary School , 228 N. Broadway, Dayton, Ohio.
Data drawn from Dayton Children’s emergency department reveals that thousands of injuries related to play, including sports, playground and wheeled injuries, could be prevented each year. The purpose of the 2011-2012 campaign is not only to inform children but also their parents, caregivers and coaches that injuries are not “part of the game.”
Dayton Children’s will be receiving $176,194 from the Kohl’s Cares ® program to support the 2011 Kohl’s A Minute for Kids Campaign. Since 2000 Kohl’s Department Stores has donated more than $1,341,281 to Dayton Children’s through their Kohl’s Cares® program.
At the kick-off event on November 3, Kohl’s Associates in Action Team members will be facilitating interactive stations for students at Edison around issues including: the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet, staying hydrated, recognizing the signs of concussions and reducing overuse/acute sports injuries.
At future events, youth coaches will also be provided with a “toolkit” containing tip cards, a short safety video, a safety clipboard and other resources to help them identify and appropriately respond to injuries on the sidelines.
