World-renowned doctor in advanced ear, nose and throat procedures now at Dayton Children's Hospital

Imagine your child swallows a poison that eats his away his throat. What if your baby is born with a tumor that makes it impossible for her to breathe? You need specialized help fast, close to home. That’s why Dayton Children’s is proud to introduce the advanced pediatric otolaryngology program to tackle devastating cases like this, with world-renowned physician, Ravindhra Elluru, MD, PhD, at the helm.

Dr. Elluru joins Dayton Children’s as the medical director of advanced pediatric otolaryngology. Otolaryngology is the study of ear, nose and throat conditions. However, Dr. Elluru takes that study to a level that has doctors from China to Egypt asking for his opinions and advice. He has earned some of his field’s highest honors and his research has resulted in advances in the field, changes in practice guidelines and increased survival rates for patients.

Dr. Elluru’s special interests lie in airway reconstruction, chronic ear disease, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, sinus disease, allergies, head and neck tumors, thyroid disease and vascular birth marks. In the last 13 years of his practice, he has performed about 1,000 airway evaluations and 400 airway reconstructions. Thousands of Dayton area children stand to benefit from his specialized skills.

“I love working with children and their families on these complex issues, solving problems that impact every aspect of their life,” says Dr. Elluru. “And here at Dayton Children’s, everything that goes on is centered around the patient, providing the highest level care in a safe and comfortable atmosphere.”

Welcoming Dr. Elluru is just the latest step in Dayton Children’s mission to provide world-class care to children. The hospital just announced the building of an eight-story patient care tower as part of a $141 million campus renewal plan. It will transform care and allow Dayton Children’s to meet the needs of patients, families and care providers well into the future. Dayton Children’s has also teamed up with Wright State University and Premier Health in the Neuroscience Institute to fund research into pediatric neuroscience as well as formed a partnership with Premier Health out of the Southwest Ohio Neonatal Collaborative, creating the Fetal to Newborn Care Center. It will provide a seamless continuum of care to women facing a high-risk pregnancy and their babies.
