Uses:Specific gravity may be used as one indicator of renal function, reflecting the ability of the kidneys to concentrate urine.
Limitations:Glucose, protein, and IVP dye can cause falsely elevated results. One gram of glucose per deciliter will elevate the specific gravity approximately 0.004 g/mL. One gram of protein will elevate the specific gravity approximately 0.003 g/mL.
