Print this page Bookmark and Share
Includes:Urine creatinine, height, weight, collection period, volume, creatinine clearance. Serum creatinine must be ordered separately.
Phone:(937) 641-3428
Available:Daily, 24 hours
Turnaround:Routine: 3 hours, STAT: 1 hour
Specimen:12 or 24 hour urine collection and blood
Volume:Entire urine collection and 0.6 mL blood
Container:Urine collection container and green top tube preferred or red top tube acceptable
Temperature:Refrigerate urine during collection.
Rejection:Incomplete urine collection received, no blood received.
Normal:Creatinine clearance: Newborn: 40-65 mL/min
Male >14 days old: 98-150 mL/min
Female >14 days old: 95-123 mL/min
See individual tests: UCRE and CREA
Uses:Renal function test; assessment of glomerular filtration rate.
Limitations:Obtain container and instruction sheet for timed urine collections from the laboratory. Exercise and high meat diet cause significantly increased creatinine excretion. The glomerular filtration rate is substantially increased in pregnancy. Ascorbic acid influences creatinine determinations. Salicylates and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (indomethacin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fenoprofen) produce a rise in the serum creatinine and a fall on creatinine clearance by as much as 25%. Trimethoprim causes decreased creatinine clearance. Cimetidine is reported to impair creatinine clearance.
Method:Colorimetric biochromatic rate (kinetic Jaffe)
