Uses:IgM is decreased in immune deficient states, protein losing conditions, and non IgM myelomas, IgM is increased in Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, chronic infections and liver disease.
Limitations:It should be noted that the assay of IgM for intrauterine infections is nonspecific and must be supplemented with specific diagnostic tests.
