Cetonas

(Ketones)

La glucosa (un tipo de azúcar) es la principal fuente de energía del cuerpo. Sin embargo, cuando el cuerpo no es capaz de emplear esta sustancia como fuente de energía, recurre a la grasa. Cuando se descomponen las grasas para generar energía, aparecen unos elementos químicos denominados “cetonas” en la sangre y la orina. Esto puede ocurrir cuando no se ha consumido suficiente alimento para suministrar glucosa y extraer energía de ella o cuando se padece de diabetes y el cuerpo no es capaz de usar la glucosa en forma normal.
