The department of infectious disease offers a diagnostic and treatment program for infants children and teens with infectious diseases. In addition to direct patient care evaluation, the department also deals with various aspects of pediatric AIDS, antimicrobial therapy, immunization use, hospital infection control and the care of children with evidence of immunologic dysfunction.

- Ambulatory evaluation and treatment of physician-referred patients
- Hospital evaluation and treatment of patients who are admitted from the emergency department or are physician-referred
- Hospital consultation on any patient with a potential infection or immunodeficiency disorder
- Phone consultations with physicians who have patient-related questions about infections, immunodeficiency disorders or immunizations
- Evaluation of the internationally adopted child and the pediatric traveler
- Medical care of HIV-infected children
- Psychosocial services for HIV-affected families
- HIV screening (pre-test and post-test counseling)
