Dayton Children's career connections helped Alisa find her fit

When the world and our community was facing never-before-seen challenges, Alisa Foster, a retired government worker, stepped up as a Dayton Children's COVID-19 screener to lend a helping hand. Greeting every visitor, employee, patient and family at the hospital's doors with positivity and kindness, Alisa was quickly reminded of her love for serving others.

"I knew that things were going to get better and the screener position would not be in such demand as it was during the beginning of the pandemic," said Alisa. "I have a love for serving others, so I knew I wanted to stay in direct contact with people, but I just did not know what that meant for me moving forward at Dayton Children's."

Then, Alisa heard about Dayton Children's career connections program - our commitment to helping employees achieve career goals, continue to grow and expand horizons when looking for the next step in their career. After sitting down with Casey Hookfin, Dayton Children's career specialist program manager, Alisa was connected with our employee experience department, where she had the opportunity to shadow. 

"I applied, interviewed and the rest is history," Alisa said.

Recently celebrating her one-year anniversary with Dayton Children's, Alisa is now a talent acquisition onboarding specialist with employee experience. 

"This new role fits me perfectly...being an encourager by nature, this position allows me to be just that when our new hires come into the door," said Alisa. "It's a joy to see faces coming in with excitement to begin their first job or start of a new career. I'm most excited that I can learn new things and the opportunity for growth superseded my expectations."
