Thank you for your interest in applying to the child life internship at Dayton Children’s Hospital. We are pleased to offer a 600+ hour internship for students pursuing a child life certification. Please see the information below for with pre-requisites for eligibility and materials to be submitted with your application. This internship follows the submission, offer, and acceptance dates as set forth by the Association of Child Life Professionals. Please note that we only offer a summer internship in 2022.

Summer 2022 internship

  • Application due: January 5, 2022
  • Initial offer date: February 8, 2022
  • Acceptance date: February 9, 2022
  • Second offer date: February 10, 2022

prerequisites for applying for child life internship

  • Have completed child life practicum
  • Have completed coursework, per Association of Child Life Professionals Eligibility Assessment
  • Minimum senior level undergraduate college status with a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Have experience working with children in a variety of settings as listed below in materials to be submitted with complete application
  • Affiliated with a college or university

materials to be submitted for a complete application:

  • Association of Child Life Professionals’ Common Child Life Internship Application

  • Proof of:
    • At least 100 hours of experience with well infants, children, youth, and/or families
    • At least 100 hours of experience with infants, children, youth, and/or families in stressful situations, health care settings, and/or programs designed for children with special needs
    • Successfully completed child life coursework inclusive of the 6 applied areas of study, as required by the ACLP
    • Completed the academic course work portion of the ACLP eligibility assessment or are actively enrolled in an ACLP endorsed academic program
  • Child life practicum evaluation
  • Official transcript(s) or copy of official transcript(s)
  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a Certified Child Life Specialist, in author signed and sealed envelopes
  • Essay answering question, “Why do you want to pursue a child life internship here at Dayton Children’s Hospital?” (500 word maximum)
