The lipid clinic at Dayton Children's Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation, education and treatment options for children with lipid disorders.

Lipid disorders include things like high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Lipid disorders are frequently associated with insulin resistance syndrome and complications of obesity and elevated BMI. 

what happens during a lipid clinic visit?

At your visit, the physician will do a complete physical exam. They will also review labs that were ordered before your visit, and review the diet history. The lipid clinic team will then provide assessment, discuss and order further testing as needed, and start a treatment plan.

Testing helps us learn more about your child so we can design the best treatment plan for them. Some tests that may be ordered after the evaluation are:

what does treatment look like?

Your child will receive a treatment plan based on their specific needs. The plans commonly include diet and exercise pieces as well as a medical treatment plan that includes bloodwork and medical testing individualized for your child. Other treatments like medication are discussed based on your child's needs.
