a new member of the Dr. Mom Squad!

We are excited to announce a new addition to our Dr. Mom Squad, Laura Hutchison, MD!

We decided to catch up with Dr. Hutchison to learn a little bit more about her and why she is excited to join the squad!

What is your specialty? Can you tell us what you do?

I am a general pediatrician and I practice at the Children’s Health Clinic at Dayton Children’s Hospital. There I see kids from birth until they are 18 years old. I provide well child care as well as sick kid care as part of a doctor’s office. This office is also interesting in that the civilian Pediatric Residents that are at Dayton Children’s Hospital come to the Children’s Health Clinic for their experience in office pediatric medicine. I have the pleasure of overseeing them and adding to their education.

Tell us about you and your family

I am married (to another pediatrician) and we have a 15-year-old daughter. She is a wonderful and typical teenager. She is actively involved in sports year round and is the light of our life. She has great aspirations for the future and we can’t wait to see what is next. As a family, we greatly enjoy travelling and attending sporting events – especially soccer. Our favorite vacations always seem to involve the ocean!

What is it like being a doctor AND a mom?

I love both jobs of being a Mom and a Doctor and would not feel complete to lose either one. So, I am like most other Moms and am constantly juggling and looking for the balance between home and work life. It definitely keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel that my job and experiences (at times heartbreaking and at times incredibly heartwarming) have led to a great appreciation for the privilege of the care of children and have added to a deeper appreciation of my own family.

Why are you excited to be a part of the Dr. Mom Squad?

I am very excited to join this incredible group of women that make up the Dr. Mom Squad. I look forward to learning from them and embarking on an incredible new experience. I am excited to add to the blogs about adolescent issues and hope that the community will comment so that we can all build on these topics and experiences.
