more options to serve children with disorders of the kidneys, urinary tract and high blood pressure

Dayton Children’s adds physician to the nephrology department

Dayton Children’s Hospital welcomes Mauricio Romero Olvera, MD, to the nephrology department.

The department of pediatric nephrology at Dayton Children’s provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment service for infants, children and adolescents with disorders of the kidney, urinary tract and high blood pressure, as well as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.  The specialists can diagnose children with suspected kidney disorders and provide appropriate treatment and follow-up that’s tailored to the growing body.  They work closely with specialists in urology and pediatric surgery to provide comprehensive care.

Dr. Romero has special interests in nephrotic syndrome, a disorder in which children spill protein from their kidneys, as well as lupus nephritis, when the body’s immune system attacks the kidneys.  Both can lead to kidney failure.

Dr. Romero is board certified in pediatrics and just completed a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.  He completed a residency in pediatrics at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in Bronx, New York. He received his medical degree from La Salle University in his birth place of Mexico City.  He is fluent in English and Spanish.
