Many times a child’s ongoing medical conditions often require additional resources to assist parents and caregivers. With our Family Support Resource Directory, you can search resources that span over the 20-county area that Dayton Children’s serves. You can quickly connect to local, regional and national resources to help you locate information about education, healthcare, financial, transition, recreation, networking, future planning and more.

This guide is organized to help you find the information that you need:

  • To the right are pages specific to parents, professionals and teens. This may be a good starting point for those new to our directory.
  • To the left is a list of categories that our resources cover.
  • Finally, below is a search bar specifically for our Special Needs Resource Center that you can tailor to your county or specific needs.

In addition to the resource center, we also offer the complete KidsHealth Library to help parents learn more about a specific condition. Information is given in easy-to-understand terms and in many cases available in Spanish as well as English.

"I Can Do It, Too!" - Special Needs Adaptive Gymnastics

Description

The Ohio Sports Academy offers this class designed for children of all ages with minimal to moderate challenges with developmental delay, attention deficit, Autism, Sensory issues, coordination problems, fear of movement and more. The program combines sensory, gross motor and gymnastics activities which will improve strength, flexibility, balance, direction following, and confidence in the student. The program is designed to provide an opportunity for children with special needs to participate in a movement program as a recreation activity in addition to other therapies.

4 Paws for Ability enriches the lives of children with disabilities by training and placing quality, task-trained service dogs. This provides increased independence for the children, and assistance to their families. Abilities First

Abilities First is a non-profit organization, located in Middletown, Ohio that serves children and adults with a wide range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, language and cognitive impairments. Adaptive Clothing

Adaptive Clothing Showroom provides clothing that has been adapted to ease the dressing needs of children with disabilities. Adaptive clothing is designed for those who are post-op, bedridden, wheelchair bound, or with limited mobility or dexterity.
