Fostering wellness for families of children with chronic disorders in pediatric practice

Objectives:

  1. Recognize the prevalence and negative impact of parent and family stress when a child is diagnosed with a disabling or life-threating disorder.
  2. Identify specific contributors to family stress under these circumstances.
  3. Explore opportunities and barriers for mitigation of this stress in a pediatric chronic care model.
  4. Review a small but growing body of evidence concerning the feasibility and outcomes of interventions for family stress.
