Corporate and Group Volunteers

Various opportunities exsit for corporate and group volunteers to assist at Dayton Children's. Typically, the intention is to help on a specific project or provide a needed service on a short-term basis.

Since project volunteers are not at Dayton Children's on a regular long-term schedule, they are not required to go through the application/interview process, attend volunteer orientation or complete the required health screening. Because they do not complete the above requirements, they are unable to be involved with direct patient care or perform tasks in clinical areas.

Some of Dayton Children's short-term projects are seasonal and may be outdoors such as landscaping, clean-up or painting. Indoor projects may include cleaning playrooms or the Spot Shop/gift shop, cleaning toys, assisting with holiday decorations or helping with special fundraising events.

For more information about corporate and group volunteer projects, contact the volunteer services department at 937-641-3333.

Bringing Smiles

Another way that groups often like to volunteer at Dayton Children's is through our child life department. Child life collaborates with 200 community groups or individuals per year who are interested in bringing smiles to our patients faces. The groups and individuals positively impact patients by engaging them in activities or donating needed items from our wishlist. To request a group visit or more information please call the hospital at 641-3000 and ask to speak with child life.

Special events or group visits should be scheduled two weeks to one month in advance. Dates and times are limited and fill up fast.

Please keep in mind the following guidelines:

  • Preferred group size is 5 people or less
  • All participants must be age 15+
  • Groups must be accompanied by a child life specialist or hospital volunteer
  • No food, candy or latex balloons
  • All photos require parent consent
  • Allow 60 to 90 minutes for your group visit
  • Our patients range in age from newborn to 21 years of age
