The Department of Pediatrics at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine is recruiting for a medical geneticist. The successful candidate will hold a fully-affiliated faculty appointment within the Department of Pediatrics. This is a 12 month, annually renewable, non-tenure track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending upon qualifications. The position includes clinical practice of medical genetics at Dayton Children’s Hospital with oversight of genetic testing and participation in the education of pediatric residents and medical students. Ample opportunity exists to conduct clinical and/or basic research. The candidate will also assist the current Medical Director of Genetics in the administration of the genetics department and its grants. Candidates must have an MD, MBBS, or DO degree, have completed an approved genetics fellowship and be board certified/eligible in medical genetics and able to obtain an unrestricted license in Ohio.
Dayton Children’s Hospital is a free-standing 155 bed children’s hospital serving 20 counties and is the only children’s hospital in this area. The Department has a DNA Diagnostics Lab, a Biochemical Diagnostics Lab, and a Cytogenetics Diagnostics Lab. The Department of Genetics at Dayton Children’s has 15 people including one clinical geneticist, a cytogeneticist, 3 genetic counsellors, a medical genetics nurse, a dietician for treatment of metabolic disorders, and 7 laboratory technicians. The clinical geneticist sees over 700 patients in clinic and oversees over 1,000 genetic tests and more than1,000 genetic counselor letters annually.
