Use the Remote Control

Issue: There’s some terrible stuff on television. The level of violent images and sexually inappropriate themes appears to be increasing both in broadcast as well as cable media. This toxic material hurts our children.

Recognize that although any particular program or image may not harm your children, the research is clear that over a period of time these programs have a significant impact on your children’s development.

Try this:

If you feel uncomfortable with what your children are watching on television, have the moral strength to say “no.” However, rather than just telling the children that something is bad, wrong, or inappropriate, talk with them about your concerns. Be strong enough to do the right thing, and explain your activities to your children.
