Childhood obesity has emerged as a leading threat to the health of our children. One in three children born in Ohio is overweight by the age of 8. Ohio ranks fourth highest in the nation in overweight high school students. According to our 2011 Regional Pediatric Health Assessment, 37 percent of children in our region are overweight or obese.
We know that preventing childhood obesity needs to begin at a very young age by teaching children appropriate eating and activity habits.
A team at Dayton Children's including physicians, nurses and dieticians who regularly treat overweight children created these Healthy Habits handouts. Our goal is to give parents actionable ideas and strategies to incorporate activity and healthy eating habits in the daily routines of your children. No matter the age of your child, we have strategies to help you encourage healthy habits!
