Data drawn from Dayton Children’s emergency department reveals that thousands of injuries related to play, including sports, playground and wheeled injuries, could be prevented each year. The purpose of our 2011-2012 Kohl's A Minute for Kids campaign is not only to inform children but also their parents, caregivers and coaches that injuries are not “part of the game.”
This year, Dayton Children’s received $176,194 from the Kohl’s Cares ® program to support the 2011 Kohl’s A Minute for Kids Campaign. We will be using this generous donation to create radio and television spots featuring ways kids can keep safe while at play.
Here are our key program messages:
- Tot Takeover - Keeping your curious toddler safe requires childproofing, smart toy selection and active supervision.
- Playing it Safe - Playground injuries, particularly falls, can be prevented checking for unsafe equipment, using right-sized equipment and active adult supervision.
- Big Wheels to Bicycles - No matter what kind of nonmotorized wheeled vehicle your child rides make sure they use the proper safety equipment to keep them safe
- Nobody Wins if Somebody Gets Hurt - Young athletes can prevent injuires by warming up, stretching, staying properly hydrated and wearing the appropriate gear.
