The Ten Second Rule

When I was a young child my mom would always tell me to “count to ten” before I got angry.  It’s a great rule, not only for kids, but for parents as well. Most parents want to do the right thing, but sometimes in the intensity of the moment we act impulsively in disciplining our kids.

Try this:

The next time your child misbehaves, walk away from the situation for about ten seconds.  That short break will allow you to calm down, think about the problem in a more mindful manner, and develop a more thoughtful course of action.
