Why a pediatric surgeon?

Our pediatric surgeons are the only ones who have the knowledge, education and expertise to operate on and care for the smallest babies to growing young adults. In addition, all surgeons at Dayton Children’s work with pediatric anesthesiologists, the only ones in the region trained to safely sedate children of all sizes.

The proof is in the training

Our surgeons are specially trained to care for kids. They receive at least 11 years of medical training, including four extra years learning the ins and outs of surgery on children and teens. They also earn a special board-certification from the American Board of Surgery.

Dayton Children’s has the expertise

Our pediatric surgical services division has a total of 70 specialists trained to perform surgical procedures on kids. They come from a range of departments including dentistry, ear nose and throat (ENT), gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, pulmonology, urology, general surgery and more. Together they have hundreds of years of experience caring only for kids.
