Miss America visits Dayton Children’s Hospital

Miss America visit kicks off partnership between IHOP® Restaurants and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to help meet 2016 fundraising goals

Miss America 2016, Betty Cantrell, traded in her tiara and sash for a chef’s hat and apron on a visit to Dayton Children’s Hospital for Children’s Miracle Network and as a spokesperson for IHOP Restaurants. She served pancakes to families and staff, and visited children in their rooms and the playrooms.

The visit was in preparation for the annual National Pancake Day coming up on March 8. On that day, IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer each guest a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other local causes.

For every delicious short stack of buttermilk pancakes served on National Pancake Day, guests are invited to make a donation to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program. IHOP proceeds within Dayton benefit Dayton Children’s Hospital.

This year, in honor of the 11th anniversary of National Pancake Day, IHOP® Restaurants are hoping to stack up donations, with a goal to raise $3.5 million, for a total of nearly $23.5 million in 11 years. Money donated to Children's Miracle Network in the Dayton area goes to fund critical, life-saving equipment for the children who have to come to the emergency department, the newborn intensive care unit or the cancer center at Dayton Children's Hospital.

In the morning, Dayton Children’s ambassadors Caulin Booher from Beavercreek and Emily Michel from Englewood joined Miss America to learn how to flip a perfect pancake at the IHOP location on North Fairfield Road in Beavercreek.

FACTS FROM NATIONAL PANCAKE DAY 2015:

  • IHOP Restaurants served 6.6 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day 2015 and pancake lovers donated $3.5 million to children’s charities.
  • All of the free pancakes served on National Pancake Day 2015 would create a stack nearly 19 miles high.
  • Since the inception of National Pancake Day in 2006, IHOP Restaurants has raised $20 million to support charities in the local communities in which they operate.
