construction update on the data center (and cool new technology)

Modern technology is one of the four momentum builders of Dayton Children's strategic roadmap Destination 2020 and is necessary to support clinical, business and patient experience initiatives. One major initiative tied to modern technology is the construction on our new data center. Our construction team from Danis is working hand-in-hand with our IS department on the new data center, which is the third phase of our construction plan. The new data center is expected to be complete in 2015.

why are we building a new data center?

The data center is part of our overall master facility plan. Currently, new fiber optical cable is being laid in the new data center. Why is this important? Overall, it will provide faster connectivity in the new patient tower. Also, it will support video needs, new technology such as desktop cameras for video conferencing, upgraded phone systems and provide more computer server storage. Also, the long-term goal is to offer patient education – and entertainment – through technology.

what’s next?

The next step for the construction team is the demolition of the Barney building, which will start later this summer.
