Dayton Children's receives Community Honor Award

Dayton Children’s Hospital is honored to receive the Better Business Bureau’s Community Honor award.  Deborah Feldman, president and CEO, accepted the award at the Eclipse Integrity Awards.  

This is the fifth year for the award.  The Better Business Bureau established it to honor a community-based government, nonprofit or education organization with a proven commitment to improving all aspects of life in the Miami Valley. It spotlights the honoree’s efforts to realize not only its own mission, but its role in making the Miami Valley a thriving community, taking care of its citizens – individuals and organizations.. It demonstrates a passion for and progress towards improving the quality of life. This honor is reserved for an organization which has shown stamina, steadfast determination and truly innovative ways of giving back to the community.

The selection committee chose Dayton Children’s Hospital for the honor, as one of only 45 freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, serving 290,000 children every year. The hospital’s mission is to not just take care of sick kids, but to ensure all children in the region are healthy and safe.

Dayton Children’s is using a strategic plan called Destination 2020 as the roadmap to ensure the hospital remains strong, independent and locally-governed. The hospital also builds partnerships in the community to complement and enhance its mission, whether it’s partnering with city and other organizations on neighborhood improvement initiatives, such as the current creation of a children’s garden to ensure children in the neighborhood have a safe place to play to its $140 million renewal plan to revitalize the Valley Street campus. Its staff serve on various coalitions to improve the economic and social health of the community. It also enhances the workforce by serving as a teaching hospital, training the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric specialists.
