05-26-2010 (Dayton, OH) -
The Dayton Bar Association is holding its Fourth Annual “5 for the Kids” 5K run and walk to benefit CARE House on June 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. outside Brixx Ice Company in Downtown Dayton.
Over the past three years, the “5 for the Kids” has become a tradition for runners and walkers in the Dayton area. It is organized by the Young Lawyer Division of the Dayton Bar Association (DBA) to raise money and awareness for child victims of abuse and neglect through CARE House. Last year, the 5 for the Kids event raised over $8,600 and collected nearly 150 stuffed animals through the generosity of local businesses, individual sponsors, and race participant registration.
Founded in 1998, CARE House - an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance and our community’s advocacy center for child victims of abuse and neglect - coordinates services for approximately 500 of the most serious cases of child abuse in Montgomery County each year. The CARE House multidisciplinary team draws from The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, Dayton Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services, and Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Starting from outside Brixx Ice Company located at 500 East First Street in Downtown Dayton, the 3.1 mile course leads participants past Fifth Third Field and along the Great Miami River before returning to the Brixx “Refueling Station” where they will be greeted with complimentary food and drink, an awards presentation to the top male and female participants, as well as live entertainment.
Those interested in participating in this fun charity event are encouraged to register online through www.RunningTime.net or www.getmeregistered.com. Pre-registration is available through Thursday, June 10, 2010, with race day registration at Brixx beginning at 5:30 p.m.
