06-23-2010 (Dayton, OH) -
Dayton Children’s newly renovated Soin Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Center opened May 5.
This 29,000-square-foot center marks phase one of an $8.5 million renovation of the pediatric, trauma and emergency center. Phase one is about a $3 million investment.
The space features bright colors and furniture and an interactive wall, which has images projected on it. The whole idea of the renovation is it’s kid friendly.
Phase two is expected to be complete spring 2011. The remaining renovation of the emergency department includes trauma and patient rooms and a family resource center.
Renovation began last year to meet an increasing number of patients and update a facility that was more than 20 years old. Last year, Dayton Children's emergency department saw more than 60,000 children and we are projecting to see more than 70,000 this year.
“Obviously there’s a need in the community. In order to take care of all those kids we needed to double our space,” said Betsy Woods, public relations and marketing manager.
