The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton will open a new specialty care center in Springfield on Thursday, April 19, 2012 in the MercyCrest Medical Arts Building, 30 W. McCreight Ave. Dayton Children’s will provide the following services on a regular rotation:

• Gastroenterology—starting April 19
• Neurology—starting in July
• Pediatric surgery starting in June
• Pulmonary—starting May 9
The opening of the center in Springfield is part of a plan to strengthen access to pediatric sub-specialty care throughout Dayton Children’s region. “We have had a tremendous partnership with Springfield Regional Medical Center and with the pediatric groups in Springfield for many years. This new center is based on those great partnerships and the desire to make it more convenient for the 17,000 Springfield area children and their families who currently visit Dayton Children’s for pediatric specialty care each year,” says David Kinsaul, president and CEO of Dayton Children’s. “Because, more children from Springfield are being referred for specialty care to Dayton Children’s, we are confident that by bringing pediatric specialists to this new center, it will enable us to better meet the needs of the families and our partners closer to home.”
According to Rocking Horse Center CEO Dana Engle, “Our patients and their families will benefit from the close proximity of pediatric specialists. It will raise the level of pediatric care in our community.”
“We are looking forward to the expanded specialty coverage and feel it will be a great asset to our patients and our office as well,” says William Leahy, MD, Pediatric Associates of Springfield.
Plans call for Dayton Children’s to be at the MercyCrest location until June 2013 at which time the Springfield center will move to a permanent location in the medical office building planned by Springfield Regional Medical Center. Dayton Children’s partners with Springfield Regional to provide the highest quality of health care to pediatric patients by training hospital staff in pediatric inpatient and emergency care.
“We’ve had a long-standing partnership with Dayton Children’s and look forward to their expanded services in our community. The children of Springfield and the surrounding area will benefit from the strengthened specialized care offered right here,” says Mark Wiener, president and CEO, Springfield Regional Medical Center.
