Dayton Children’s physician receives award for caring for children with disabilities

Cecilia Rivera-Amisola, MD, a developmental pediatrician at The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, will be recognized with the Dr. Harold F. Hilty Humanitarian Award for her dedication to caring for children with disabilities. The annual award is being presented by United Rehabilitation Service of Greater Dayton (URS) at their 15th Annual Awards dinner May 15, 2012.

According to her nomination, “Dr. Rivera-Amisola has supported URS in many ways through volunteering her time to speak to our patients’ families and participate on our medical advisory committee. She has dedicated her life to the field of developmental pediatrics, and her commitment to her patients is obvious.”

Those receiving this prestigious award meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates commitment and leadership in identifying and offering quality services to people with disabilities.
  • Provides warm and compassionate counsel and support to people with disabilities and his or her family.
  • Helps other professionals and the community at large to understand cerebral palsy and the implications of the disability.

The department of developmental pediatrics at Dayton Children’s offers a variety of diagnostic and treatment services for children with developmental and learning problems. Some of the conditions treated include developmental delays, autism, down syndrome, hyptonia/hypertonia, and ADHD.
