04-18-2011 (Dayton, OH) -
Guests at the Saturday, May 14 CHA-CHA fundraiser, hosted by the Women’s Board of The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, will experience the newest in bidding technology to make the evening a “Lively Silent Auction.”
Organizers are using the new technology BidPal, a handheld bidding device, enabling guests to bid on favorite items from anywhere in the room instead of lingering by their coveted auction items. Guests will be able to spend their time mingling or sampling hors d’oeuvres, making the event more than just an auction but a social, celebratory occasion. During the evening, guests will be able to use their BidPals to receive outbid alerts, watch favorite items, place maximum bid amounts, choose the “buy-it-now” feature and find out when they’ve won an item.
But the cutting-edge technology and high-end auction aren’t the only reasons attendees will be celebrating this year at CHA-CHA. The dream vacations and one-of-a-kind items are all being auctioned for a specific cause: to help Dayton Children’s continue to save the lives of critically ill newborns.
The Women’s Board has pledged to use the event’s money specifically to purchase additional Giraffe® beds for Dayton Children’s Regional Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which are vital in helping premature babies get healthy. The Giraffe® bed enables nurses to move the beds around and allows the baby to stay in the same bed before, during and after procedures. The NICU needs eight additional Giraffe® beds. Each bed costs $45,000.
“One of the major benefits of the Giraffe® bed is it enables minimal touches which is so important to the healing of a premature baby—who really needs more rest,” says Jennifer Morris, RN, clinical coordinator in Dayton Children’s NICU.
Additional benefits of the Giraffe® Bed include:
- Rotating, extra large mattress which allows twins to be placed in one unit
- Internal bed tilt and an integrated in-bed scale
- Rail system for mounting of IV poles and pumps
- Controlled humidifier, oxygen systems and temperature controls maintain precise, optimum conditions
The CHA-CHA “Lively Silent Auction” on May 14 begins at 6 p.m. and will have a different, more engaging atmosphere than past events. Entertainment will include “This Side Up” with the event emceed by Nancy Wilson, co-host of “The Breakfast Club” on K-99. Additionally, the menu will consist of food stations throughout the room giving attendees another reason to get up, move around and learn about the Giraffe beds from Jennifer, as one bed will be at the event.
Auction items include a “Love Bowl” created by a NICU child ambassador, dinner prepared by Dayton Children’s President and CEO David Kinsaul and several other packages including dream vacations, a custom made playhouse, home makeovers and many more representing the theme of “Reasons to Celebrate.” “Buy-it-Now” packages including a trip to the 2012 GRAMMYs, a live taping of “Dancing With the Stars” or a David Yurman necklace are just a few of the items which are available.
The event will be cocktail attire and tickets are $150 per person. It will be held at Sinclair Ponitz Center at 444 W. Third St. at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. For more information on registering or about the event, go to chachadayton.com.
