Volume:Tissue biopsy placed in Viral/Chlamydia transport media
Container:Viral/Chlamydia transport media.
Temperature:Transport on ice. Refrigerate if transport is delayed more than one hour.
Rejection:Tissue collected in formalin or other fixative.
Normal:No virus isolated.
Uses:Detects and identifies viral infection in tissue specimens.

Detectable Viruses - varies depending on site; may include Adenovirus, CMV, Enterovirus, HSV, Influenza A/B, Parainfluenza 1/2/3/4, RSV, VZV
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative result does not rule out a viral infection.

Suspected Adenovirus, CMV, and VZV in Tissue should include an order for detection by PCR.
