Includes:Qualitative detection of Trichomonas vaginalis (“Trichomonas”) antigens from vaginal swabs or from the saline solution prepared when making wet mounts from vaginal swabs.

Specimen:Vaginal specimen
Volume:Culturette swab or a swab in 1 mL Saline
Container:Clean tube containing 1 mL saline. Leave swab in the tube.
Temperature:Room temperature, Deliver to laboratory immediately
Rejection:Swabs with cotton tips or wooden shafts are not recommended
Normal:Negative for Trichomonas
Uses:Aids in the diagnosis of Trichomonas infection
Limitations:A negative test does not necessarily rule out infection.
