Turnaround:Preliminary report at 1 day. No growth or normal flora cultures are finalized at 3 days, positives as identified.
Specimen:Bronchial washing or aspirate
Volume:1 culturette or Leukens trap
Container:Culturette or sterile container
Temperature:Room temperature. Transport to the lab within 30 minutes
Rejection:Not received within 12 hrs.
Normal:No growth or normal flora.
Uses:Identification of organisms causing infection.
Limitations:Antibiotic therapy may inhibit growth. Contamination with adjacent areas should be avoided.
