Specimen:None required if crossmatch is already complete; otherwise blood
Volume:0.5 mL
Container:Purple top tube or 3 purple Microtainers. For NICU: 1 purple Microtainer.
Temperature:Room temperature for transport. Refrigerated for storage.
Rejection:Improper labeling or wrong collection tube.
Uses:Replacement of red cell mass to provide oxygen transport function. See Criteria Table.
Limitations:RBC prepared in syringes expire in 24 hours. Must be ABO/Rh compatible and must be crossmatched prior to transfusion. See Crossmatch procedure for other limitations.
