Turnaround:Negatives reported at 14 days, positives as identified
Specimen:Rectal swab
Volume:Sterile swab of rectum (no swabs with wooden shafts please) placed in Viral/Chlamydia transport media.
Container:Viral/Chlamydia transport media
Temperature:Transport on ice. Refrigerate if transport is delayed more than one hour.
Rejection:Specimen not submitted in Viral/ Chlamydia transport media.
Normal:No virus isolated
Uses:Detects and identifies viral infection in stool.

Detectable Viruses - Adenovirus, CMV, Enterovirus
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative result does not rule out a viral infection.
