Temperature:Room temperature, transport to lab within 10 minutes.
Rejection:Test will not be performed unless a routine bacterial culture is also ordered.
Normal:Negative.
Uses:Diagnosis of bacterial infection. May be helpful in patients suspected of having meningitis who have been pretreated and culture and gram stain are negative.
Limitations:Specimen showing gross hemolysis, lipemia, or turbidity. A negative test does not necessarily eliminate the possibility of infection.
