Available:Daily, 24 hours. Specimens received before 1 PM will be set up the same day.
Turnaround:3-4 days
Specimen:Sterile swab of oral lesion or area or swab of throat
Volume:Sterile swab (no swabs with wooden shafts please)
Container:Sterile swab of oral area/throat in Viral/Chlamydia transport media.
Temperature:Transport on ice. Refrigerate if transport is delayed more than 1 hour
Rejection:Specimens not submitted in Viral/chlamydia transport medium will be rejected.
Normal:No Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumonia/psittaci isolated.
Uses:To detect and identify infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumonia/psittaci.
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative result does not rule out a chlamydia infection.
