Turnaround:Negative held for 14 days, positives as identified
Specimen:Swab of ear or ear fluid
Volume:1 swab (please no swabs with wooden shafts) or any fluid placed in Viral/Chlamydia transport media
Container:Viral/Chlamydia transport media
Temperature:Room temperature. Refrigerate if transport is delayed more than one hour.
Rejection:Specimen not submitted in Viral/Chlamydia transport media.
Normal:No virus isolated
Uses:Detects and identifies viral infections of the ear.

Detectable Viruses Adenovirus, CMV, Enterovirus, HSV, Influenza A/B, Parainfluenza 1/2/3/4, RSV, VZV
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative does not rule out viral infection.
