Rejection:Contaminated with feces.
Normal:5-15 mg/dL
Uses:Evaluate bone disease, calcium metabolism, patients with renal stones (nephrolithiasis) and idiopathic hypercalciuria. High in hyperparathyroidism, extopic hyperparathyroidism and renal tubular acidosis. Low in vitamin D deficiency.
Limitations:Drugs affecting mineral metabolism should be withdrawn if possible (antacids, phosphates, diuretics, glucocorticoids, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, anticonvulsants).
